Rebuilding and Updating the "Avanti II"

As on my Cessna T-50 project, I'm extremely lucky, in that I have a huge amount of great documentation, so things can go very fast at the beginning. In the past week, I've already rebuilt from scratch all the major visible exterior parts. There's still some refining to do, but this is faster than I"ve ever been able to build something so precise, thanks to modo's great toolset.

As you can see here, i not only have orthographic 3 views, but cross sections for the fuselage, tail parts, wing and nacelle parts, and even the canard (foreplane) airfoil. Prepping all these (cropping, and adjusting to the scale I needed) was done in PhotoShop, and then imported into modo.

Cutting out the fuselage openings...

Modern 3D modelers tend to keep away from boolean operations, but modo, in it's "stencil" mode, gives great results. So, here you can see some of the "cutters" I created, and their results. Using this method, I cut out the windscreen, nose access hatch line, all cabin windows, all landing gear doors, the emergency exit door, and the baggage door. No problem whatsoever.

Checking the progress so far...

I check the model frequently against all the orthographic views and cross sections, to make sure nothing has gotten out of whack. Looking good, so far.
